19. XPOSED Queer Film Festival Berlin
The XPOSED Queer Film Festival Berlin has been held annually since 2006 and celebrated its 15th anniversary in 2020. XPOSED was founded as a community event for experimental short film, and stands for the belief that queer stories mean more than coming out and boy-meets-boy. The festival reflects not only the diversity of sexual and gender identities, but also the diversity of filmmaking. Various forms of film are shown, including documentary, feature, hybrid and experimental. To ensure that more and more of these queer stories are seen on the screen, XPOSED supports one filmmaker each year to realize a short film through the Queer Short Film Fund.
The XPOSED team organizes and curates the festival with heartfelt passion and a critical perspective on social relations. With the festival, but also with numerous other film events throughout the year, we want to create a space for encounter and exchange – and for being touched and moved.
Programme
Each year, XPOSED shows approximately six to eight short film programs with around 50 short films as well as twelve to seventeen feature-length films from around the world. XPOSED stands for a political cinema that celebrates and positively connotes „otherness.“ Queer cinema must challenge common norms of film narrative and sometimes distance itself from mainstream cinema. Contemporary as well as historical film works will be screened to promote knowledge of queer film history. We aim to collide different concepts of form and content and provoke artistic and curatorial ruptures.
