42. Schwule Filmwoche Freiburg
The Freiburg Gay Film Week is the oldest queer film festival that still exists in the German-speaking area and one of the oldest in Europe. 2025 will mark its 41st year. Every year in the first half of May, the Kandelhof cinema in Freiburg (Kandelstraße 27, 79106 Freiburg) becomes a gay festival cinema. Since 2010, an additional Christmas screening has also been held at the Kandelhof cinema in mid-December. For several years now, the Gay Film Week has also been presenting an open-air gay film every August at the summer night cinema in the so-called Black Monastery in Freiburg city centre. The Gay Film Week is currently run by 13 men who work on a voluntary basis and with a high level of commitment.
Programme
A selection of around 20 feature films and documentaries, including a programme of short films; the screenings are complemented by a Film Week party and occasional readings.
