The Soura Film Festival is an annual film festival held in Berlin that creates a safe space for queer and feminist filmmakers from South and West Asia and North Africa (S.W.A.N.A) to screen and celebrate their films through film screenings, events and panel discussions. The festival provides a space for filmmakers to explore queerness and what it means to them, to visualise their creative visions of challenging heteronormativity and the patriarchal environment, and to receive well-deserved international support and recognition.

The festival has managed to invite more than 35 different films annually from different filmmakers from more than 14 countries, including Lebanon, Morocco, Tunisia, Jordan, Palestine and Egypt.

In addition to the film screenings, the festival invites various filmmakers from the S.W.A.N.A region, film students and artists to various panel discussions to talk about LGBTQI+ rights in the SWANA region and the role of queer individuals in the Arab revolutions in general, but also to discuss film-specific subtopics such as the question of queer conditions in film production, etc.

The Soura Film Festival has set itself the task of promoting film talent from the S.W.A.N.A. region and helping to remove structural obstacles that stand in their way.
