Über QueerScope
QueerScope - Association of Independent Queer Film Festivals in Germany e.V. is a co-operation of almost 30 independent queer film festivals in Germany and Switzerland. Every year, they reach over 30,000 visitors and award numerous prizes to short and feature-length films. Together, the festivals award the annual €5,000 QueerScope Debut Film Award.
Since 1997, QueerScope has established itself as a constantly growing network, making it the oldest nationwide film festival association. It is not limited to supporting queer film festivals, but must also be understood as a cultural vehicle that creates both discursive and aesthetic spaces for queer identities.
All festivals are independent, but work closely together. The QueerScope festivals sometimes screen films together, share promotional material and film prints with each other in order to save filmmakers and film distributors time and money. They coordinate and share their own subtitling and invite filmmakers to the festivals together.
The festivals promote dialogue on acceptance and equal treatment, draw attention to continuing grievances and discrimination in Germany and the world and, above all, celebrate good films. QueerScope thus becomes an important player that actively intervenes in the discourse on social transformation.
